Amanda is a multi-instrumentalist and music educator. She began her career in musical theatre, playing a child in the production of The King and I at the Lyric Theatre in Brisbane. An accomplished pianist by the age of twelve, Amanda turned her attention to the double bass, achieving an AMusA and a Bachelor of Music (Music Performance) with Honours Class I from the University of Queensland. During her time at UQ she was awarded the Howard and Gladys Sleath Scholarship, Highly Commended in the UQ Bach Competition in 2001 and 2nd place in the Sleath String Performance Prize in 2003. Amanda also enjoys playing violin, viola, cello and bass guitar and has appreciated developing and diversifying her skills in DeepBlue. As a member of DeepBlue, Amanda has toured internationally and throughout Australia, as well as performed at the Bleach Festival (Commonwealth Games), Woodford Folk Festival, BrisAsia Festival, G20 Festival, Australia’s Got Talent and for corporate events. Amanda still has a keen interest in musical theatre and has previously played for productions with Harvest Rain Theatre Company, Savoyard’s Musical Comedy Society and various other theatre groups in Brisbane and surrounds. She currently teaches strings and bass guitar at St Laurence’s College. Amanda has previously performed with the X-Collective, Queensland Symphony Orchestra, Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra, Australian Youth Orchestra, the band Sweet Fawn, Queensland Youth Symphony, Tetrabass (double bass quartet) and in the orchestra for the animated film Articulate!.
