The Preview was the very first DeepBlue production. Born through research that surveyed and interviewed thousands of people at every stage of its creation, about what they would like to hear and see, giving them the opportunity to build a new orchestra that people would love to see. The entire show concept aimed to put the audience first, it was as much the audience's show as it was DeepBlue’s. The Preview allowed audiences to glimpse an orchestra of the next generation, an orchestra released from its straight jacket. DeepBlue looked like an orchestra, acted like a band and felt like a movie. Cameras, giant screens, dynamic lighting, strings and electronics - the show previewed an orchestra with attitude, immersed in powerful moving music, superb sound, and artistic visual projections. Combining the atmosphere of a club with the rich sound of an orchestra and the stage presence of a rock band, DeepBlue aimed to surprise and dive deeper into new sound colours & performance experiences.
The repertoire was broad and included everything from popular classical pieces to contemporary pop and rock songs. In addition, switched-on composers from all around the world were writing specifically for DeepBlue. Every song had a story to tell and was delivered through great performances with visual and lighting effects. DeepBlue’s community engagement work generated YoungBlue and meant the orchestra came into a town and worked with the venues, local schools, charities and organisations, creating long-lasting relationships and memories.
The Preview developed and defined DeepBlue’s blueprint and informed the DeepBlue of today.
The Preview was performed at the Queensland University of Technology - The Block and performed at Queensland Performing Arts Centre (2006) and then toured to New South Wales, Northern Territory and Queensland (2006 - 2008)
