October 22, 2021

7:30pm

Brisbane Powerhouse

A dynamic double-bill of strings, synths and big beats with two of Brisbane’s most innovative music collectives.

Challenging the traditional conventions of classical music, DeepBlue unleashes the orchestra while K Mak delivers otherworldly art pop from her debut album. An electrifying performance of strings-driven live music featuring riffs, synths, dynamic movement and interactive technology.

Known for their award-winning approach to orchestral performance, DeepBlue invites you into a string haven, a ride through the past, present and future. After navigating the last year, the band has come back stronger than ever, recharged and excited to present their dynamic and immersive stage show. Bringing you an incredibly fresh selection of Australian composers, hear electrifying originals as well as reinterpretations of Bowie, Madness, Tones and I, and more.

Imaginatively combining strings, beats, synths and vocals, K Mak performs her debut album live. Recorded across a studio, a church and a friend’s bedroom in Melbourne before being completed and mastered in New York, the self-titled album is a distillation of classical, alternative and electro-pop music. K Mak is the project of vocalist, performer and DeepBlue’s original cellist, Kathryn McKee. Kathryn has played onstage with Kanye West, Eminem, Archie Roach and Vera Blue. She’s plumbed the depths of her career to package A-grade musical elements into ballads and bops that draws on the likes of Radiohead, Bjork, Tori Amos, FKA Twigs, Banoffee, Cocteau Twins and inexplicably some M83.
